Scope of the Interlaboratory Proficiency Testing

The scope of this proficiency testing is the evaluation of the performance of laboratories for the determination of the metals in wastewater.

Metals

  • Aluminum (Al)
    (200-2000 microg/L)
  • Antimony (Sb)
    (50-500 microg/L)
  • Arsenic (As)
    (50-500 microg/L)
  • Barium (Ba)
    (200-2000 microg/L)
  • Beryllium (Be)
    (50-500 microg/L)
  • Boron (B)
    (800-2000 microg/L)
  • Cadmium (Cd)
    (20-200 microg/L)
  • Chromium (Cr)
    (100-1000 microg/L)
  • Chromium VI (Cr VI)
    (90 - 500 microg/L)
  • Cobalt (Co)
    (100 - 1000 microg/L)
  • Copper (Cu)
    (100 - 1000 microg/L)
  • Iron (Fe)
    (200 - 2000 microg/L)
  • Manganese (Mn)
    (200 - 2000 microg/L)
  • Mercury (Hg)
    (3 - 30 microg/L)
  • Molybdenum (Mo)
    (50 - 500 microg/L)
  • Nickel (Ni)
    (200 - 2000 microg/L)
  • Lead (Pb)
    (100 - 1000 microg/L)
  • Selenium (Se)
    (10 - 100 microg/L)
  • Silver (Ag)
    (100 - 1000 microg/L)
  • Tin (Sn)
    (200 - 2000 microg/L)
  • Vanadium (V)
    (200 - 2000 microg/L)
  • Zinc (Zn)
    (300 - 2000 microg/L)

Proficiency test item:

  • 1 x 500 mL of the test material stabilized with 2% (v/v) nitric acid ready to use for the determination of all metals except Cr VI.
  • 1 x 1000 mL of the test material to be prepared from a water matrix and a vial of the spiking solution for the determination of Cr VI.

ANALYSIS: The test sample should be analysed under the same conditions and with the same procedures used for the routine samples in the laboratory including the quality control procedures.

For each measurand shall be reported the result of a replica.

ADDITIONAL RESULTS: Each participant can submit up to 5 results* for the same analyte, thus obtaining an evaluation of laboratory performance for different operators, instruments and/or test methods (e.g. operator 1/operator 2, instrument A/instrument B, etc..).

*: Only one result submitted by the laboratory will be included in the statistical treatment of data for the calculation of the Assigned Value and statistics of data of the analyte, to avoid that a single laboratory has a different statistical weight, depending on the number of its submitted results. The additional results are evaluated by assigning z-score values, using the Assigned Value and the Standard Deviation for Proficiency Assessment obtained from statistical treatment.
