Interlaboratory proficiency testing organized in accordance with the standard ISO/IEC 17043:2010 - Conformity assessment — General requirements for proficiency testing.

Scope of the Interlaboratory Proficiency Testing

The scope of this proficiency testing is the evaluation of the performance of laboratories for the determination of the physical chemical parameters in natural waters (ex. drinking water, mineral water, groundwater, etc.).

Parameters

  • Alkalinity
    (25 - 400 mg/L CaCO3)
  • Ammonium
    (0.10 - 1.50 mg/L NH4)
  • Calcium
    (10 - 150 mg/L)
  • Chloride
    (10 - 200 mg/L)
  • Conductivity (20 oC)
    (100 - 1500 microS/cm)
  • Fluoride
    (0.50 - 5.00 mg/L)
  • Magnesium
    (2 - 40 mg/L)
  • Nitrate
    (5 - 50 mg/L NO3)
  • Nitrite
    (0.10 - 2.00 mg/L NO2)
  • Permanganate index
    (1 - 20 mg/L O2)
  • pH (20 oC)
    (6.5 – 9.5 U)
  • Phosphate
    (1.50 - 15.0 mg/L PO4)
  • Potassium
    (1 - 50 mg/L)
  • Sodium
    (5 - 200 mg/L)
  • Sulphate
    (10 - 300 mg/L SO4)
  • Total Dissolved Solids (Dried at 180°C) (100 - 1500 mg/L)
  • Total Hardness
    (5 - 30 oF )
  • Total Organic Carbon (TOC)
    (0.5 - 10 mg/L C)
  • Turbidity
    (1 - 20) NTU

Proficiency test item

  • 1 x 1000 mL of the test material ready to use for the determination of all parameters except Permanganate index, TOC and Turbidity.
  • 1 x 1000 mL of the test material to be prepared from a matrix and a vial of the spiking solution for the determination of Permanganate index and TOC.
  • 1 x 1000 mL of the test material to be prepared from a matrix and a vial of the spiking solution for the determination of Turbidity.

NOTE: All the details for the preparation of the final test sample are included in the Guide Lines of the interlaboratory proficiency testing provided with the test smples.

ANALYSIS

The test sample should be analysed under the same conditions and with the same procedures used for the routine samples in the laboratory including the quality control procedures.

For each measurand shall be reported one result.

ADDITIONAL RESULTS: Each participant can submit up to 5 results* for the same analyte, thus obtaining an evaluation of laboratory performance for different operators, instruments and/or test methods (e.g. operator 1/operator 2, instrument A/instrument B, etc..).

*: Only one result submitted by the laboratory will be included in the statistical treatment of data for the calculation of the Assigned Value and statistics of data of the analyte, to avoid that a single laboratory has a different statistical weight, depending on the number of its submitted results. The additional results are evaluated by assigning z-score values, using the Assigned Value and the Standard Deviation for Proficiency Assessment obtained from statistical treatment.
